One of our clients thought this was woman he was going to marry. But not so. This lady is Pinay actress Aya Medel. His love looked nothing like this.
Meeting your Dream Girl in Cyberspace
In the old days, a man here in the Philippines often found his wife through a third-party introduction. A relative or a good friend, who knew what he was looking for, would introduce the lucky guy or girl to a sister, brother, cousin or family friend. This is actually a good way of meting a good woman (or man). However, for a foreigner this may be difficult, especially if constricted by limited vacation days, the expenses of traveling here, etc. Meeting a partner through someone else is a good idea. And if one doesn't like the sister, or cousin or friend, or vice-versa, the go-between will usually try to find another relative to introduce.
Finding a good man to love and marry is important for most young Filipinas, just as important as it is for a Filipino man to find a good wife. Nevertheless, the true Filipina is very conscious about her conduct. If she accompanies a first-time suitor to his room the first night, she is not a “good” girl. In fact, the “real”, conservative Filipina is not going to let her suitor bed her until after the exchange of marriage wows.
The Internet has changed much of the traditional dating. There are so many dating services, both international and purely Philippines oriented. This makes it easy to hook up with someone, even if you live thousands of miles apart.
The "Find a Filipina wife" websites are foreign owned. This is because so called “mail order bride” business is illegal in the Philippines. Purely social and dating sites are OK, as we can see in the enormous success of sites such as “Friendster”, “Fildate” and “Facebook”. Most dating sites allow the girls in free, but the male members must pay for their membership. Personally, I believe that introductions and dating using the Internet, and because of that, marriages to foreigners, are going to grow as access to the Internet increases in this country.
Most men write to several women. Moreover, the women are probably writing to several men. It works both ways. So don't get upset if the girl you are writing has other on-line friends. Getting involved in any relationship is always a gamble, over the Internet, even more so. Be aware of the fact that the person you meet in Cyberspace may not be what your mind has created. If you can keep fantasy and reality separated, no problem. You may find your future, your life, and your love right there at your computer. But, to avoid shattered dreams and financial misery, let me check out the object of your affection in the early stages of your relationship. Believe me, it will put you at ease, and you can ignore all the warnings coming from your friends, as you know you have found the "Real One".
